In January I posted about the upcoming release of Google’s new algorithm dubbed “Caffeine” which was finally officially launched in June. It promised to shake up the search results by weighing in on things like page load speed, relevant linking, and – most importantly – content.
Google has always favored good content over anything else, and Caffeine is making sure that new content is getting seen while it is still relevant.
“Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than our last index, and it’s the largest collection of web content we’ve offered. Whether it’s a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before.” – Google’s Official Blog
Caffeine can process hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel. If the index were a pile of paper it would grow three miles taller every second!
So, what does all of this indexing power mean for you? FRESH content is king.
No longer is content written and then sitting around waiting to be noticed. Instead, content can affect search results nearly instantly, similar to Twitter and Facebook. You already know the Web has created a global marketplace that puts you in direct competition with other businesses in your own zip code, across the state, and even internationally. But if you are continually producing content that educates, compels buyers to download, or simply makes them want to read more, you have a distinct advantage over your competitors who have sites that are stale and outdated.
Now is the time to revamp and update. Give me a call or email me if you need help.
